Be Counted and be a part of the Guinness World Record. Join millions of others in calling on world leaders to honor their commitments to end extreme poverty by 2015 and achieve the Millennium Development Goals. You can take the online action right here on Change.org anytime between 9pm GMT on Oct. 16th and 9pm GMT on Oct. 17th and be counted towards a Guinness World Record for the most people to Stand Up and Speak Out for a cause.
How to be Counted:
1. Read the short pledge and physically STAND UP wherever you are:
I am standing now with millions around the world to show my commitment to the fight against extreme poverty and inequality. I am standing because I refuse to accept more excuses in a world where 50,000 people die every day as a result of extreme poverty and the gap between rich and poor is getting wider. I am standing to ask the world’s leaders to keep their promises to meet the Millennium Development Goals. Today, and every day, I will stand up and speak out against poverty.
2. Click 'Make this Committment,' enter your information, click 'Submit' and you will be counted for the Guinness World Record.

You all do know that these petition/internet things are effective.....Well, I guess you do...look who won the Presidency! As more evidence, MOVE ON did a petition drive to get questions for the BANK CEO's, those are what the Representatives used to grill them at the last hearing. (see the video of Rachel Maddow discussing that on her show.) Then having hundreds of thousands of citizen petitions, in hand, was the leverage Sen Dodd used to get Wall Street bonuses taken away inserted in an amendment to the Stimulus Bill, just on the last conference day last week. It' not just CEO's that must forego (even pay back) bonuses, all managerial levels cannot have bonuses, until the banks make profits...as it should be. .......So, keep signing all the real petitions you approve of. (By real I mean the ones on valid nonprofit sites... not on 'Petition' sites such as CARE2 which are only up to collect email addresses.) ... if you don't want mail back from the nonprofit sites, just be sure to uncheck their email boxes. That works fine, usually.

I believe NAFTA is unbalanced. The town I live in may be small, but the parks are full of citizens that can not find work because the businesses in this area can hire from over the border, because they don't have to pay benefits. English speaking citizens are laughed at and sometimes nasty words, like Dumb American can be heard as the employees talk in their native language. I live 11 miles from Mexico and helped feed 1200 citizens on Thanksgiving.

Dear Mr. President,
Hi my name is Jessica Jacques and I'm writing you to talk about giving back to the people. I think with this 825billion dollars that is being talk about should be given to we the people and to health care. I think that based on a persons income they should be given a nice amount. it not like its going to hurt anything the money will be going right back out into the economy with people buying houses and new cars etc it will be helping because than that will provide people with jobs again like construction etc. so it all will help everyone one out thanks for you time.
thanks,
Jessica

Poverty is a problem that many people are facing now. There those who are lucky enough who are not living in poverty, with that, I urge those who can do something about it to take action and do what they can to end poverty. This is a problem that needs solutions from everyone. By simply lending a helping, we can help solve and stand up to poverty.
